Engineering, and the Exact Sciences as a whole, are still seen as male areas even today. Fortunately, this is changing and women are increasingly conquering the training of these courses.

And, to show that Engineering is a woman's place, we gathered together 5 professionals who devastated and destroyed the profession. Come and see a little of their history!

Emily Warren Roebling
Linking two of New York's major neighborhoods (Brooklyn and Manhattan), the Brooklyn Bridge is an icon of the Big Apple - and Engineering. We bet you had no idea, but it was completed by a woman!

Emily Warren Roebling was married to Washington Roebling, engineer responsible for building the bridge. But in 1872, during construction, her husband contracted an illness and was bedridden, blind and almost paralyzed. To everyone's surprise, Emily took over as head engineer and completed one of the greatest engineering feats of the 19th century.

1Alba Colon
And if there is someone who broke all that prejudice of women know nothing about cars, that someone is Alba Colon. The Puerto Rican is the chief engineer of Chevy Racing, GM's NASCAR team, the American car stock.

3Aprille Ericsson

Aprille Ericsson is a Ph.D. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.

As an aerospace engineer at NASA, Aprille went through several functions. He is currently manager of the Atlas Instrument project, a laser-based satellite that monitors Earth's polar ice caps and its changes with global warming.
